- A louder-than-usual exhaust or a rattle underneath
- Exhaust smell inside the car
- Check engine light with a P0420 or P0455 code
Most exhaust repairs are small: a rusted flange, a broken hanger, a flex pipe that has split. We weld and replace sections rather than selling a whole system when a whole system is not needed.
Catalytic converters are the expensive part of the system, and a P0420 “catalyst efficiency” code does not always mean the converter is bad. Before we quote one we check for exhaust leaks upstream, test the oxygen sensors and look for the engine problem that may have killed the converter in the first place. Replacing a converter without fixing the cause means replacing it again.
If you do need a converter, we use CARB- or EPA-compliant units that fit your car’s emissions certification. We will also talk to you about theft deterrents; Omaha has seen plenty of converter thefts and a shield is cheap insurance on trucks and hybrids.
EVAP codes (the small- and large-leak codes, usually a loose gas cap or a cracked hose) are diagnosed with a smoke machine so we find the actual leak instead of replacing parts until the light goes out.
