Brake repair

Brakes are the repair people worry about being oversold on, so here is exactly how we handle them.

During any inspection we measure pad thickness in millimeters and photograph the rotors. New pads are around 10 to 12 mm. We note them at 4 mm, recommend replacement at 3 mm and will tell you if they are fine for another season. You see the numbers; you make the call.

When pads are replaced we also measure the rotors. If they are above the manufacturer’s minimum thickness and not warped, we leave them. If they are below spec or scored, we replace them rather than machine them, because a machined rotor is thinner and warps sooner. Our quote always shows pads and rotors as separate lines so you can see what is driving the cost.

We use ceramic pads and coated rotors from brands we would put on our own cars. Every brake job includes new hardware, a caliper slide-pin service and a brake fluid moisture test. Calipers, hoses, lines, parking brakes and ABS faults are diagnosed and quoted separately.

Ask to see the old parts. We keep them until you pick up.
