Sounds familiar?

  • A/C blows cool but not cold
  • Heat only works at highway speed
  • A clicking from behind the dash when you change temperature
  • A sweet smell or fogged windshield (heater core)

An A/C system that is “a little low” is a system with a leak. Topping it up every spring is cheap in the short term and hard on the compressor in the long term, so our performance check starts by finding where the refrigerant is going.

The $89 check measures vent temperatures and system pressures, inspects the compressor clutch and condenser, and adds UV dye if a leak is suspected. From there we quote the specific repair: usually a Schrader valve, an O-ring, a condenser (rock damage is common) or an evaporator.

We service both R-134a and the newer R-1234yf systems found in most cars built after 2017, and we recover refrigerant properly rather than venting it.

Heating problems are often not the heater at all: low coolant, a stuck thermostat or a blend-door actuator that has stripped its gears. The clicking behind the dash is almost always that actuator, and it is a far smaller job than a heater core.

October is a good time to find out the heat does not work. Call before the first hard freeze.
