Sounds familiar?
- Something works intermittently or only in certain weather
- Warning lights for ABS, airbag, traction or power steering
- Dead power windows, locks or accessory outlets
- A parasitic drain that kills the battery overnight
Modern cars have dozens of computers talking to each other on a network, and when one goes quiet the symptoms can show up somewhere else entirely. Electrical diagnosis is slow, careful work and it is where Tyler, our lead technician, spends most of his time.
We charge for diagnosis by the hour and we will tell you up front what the first hour is likely to find. For a straightforward fault, a blown fuse or a corroded ground, that hour is all it takes. For an intermittent problem we may need to keep the car overnight so a recorder can catch it in the act.
ABS, airbag, traction-control and electric-power-steering lights are not something to drive with indefinitely. The systems they protect are off while the light is on. The fix is often a wheel-speed sensor, a clock spring or a connector, all of which are reasonable repairs.
Parasitic drains, where a module fails to go to sleep and flattens the battery overnight, are tracked down with an amp clamp and patience. We find them.
We also install trailer wiring, backup cameras and replacement infotainment units, and repair rodent-chewed harnesses, which are more common than you would think.
